Luis and his wife Kathe are the founders and artisans of HANDMADE BARCELONA®, an ethical brand of handmade traditional shoes from Cataluña, Spain. They have been making shoes for many years in their family-owned factories in Spain.

They have been hosting a very successful experience teaching travelers how to stitch traditional Catalan espadrilles for a long time. This unique experience has brought them many good reviews in 2019 as a must-do in Barcelona and it is within the 10% Top Experiences Worldwide.

They are not only experts when it comes to espadrilles, but they're also fun and entertaining with their anecdotes and insider stories.

This edition transports you to their workshop in Barcelona and it includes the pair of shoes. It is unique, difficult to get anywhere else, full of insiders knowledge and fun.

Awesome place!

Visited the shop and was blown away by the experience. The staff were so welcoming and friendly, but not in a smarmy sales pushy way. There was actual hand crafting of shoes going on as we shopped and we were interested to see the process. There was lots of selection, I was able to try on many different styles in my size. The beauty of it all is that if you don't like what is in stock, choose what you do like and it is made for you. I was also super impressed with the ease of shipping my purchase home to Canada. The process could not have been easier and so worth the small shipping cost! When the package came to our house, it was nicely wrapped with a handwritten note of thanks which was a nice touch. Highly recommend!

Fun, Hands-On, One of a kind experience

What a lovely way to spend a few hours! My friends and I knew we wanted an experience driven souvenir for our vacation and the friendly staff at Handmade made that happen for us. The ladies made learning something new fun, worked in the history of the process and made sure everyone had a good time. I recommend making your own espardenyes to everyone!

This is a must if you’re coming to Barcelona. It’s so interactive and you learn so much about the history of espadrilles! Paola was the best instructor! I had the best time ever
