Overview

See a different side of Barcelona, on this 4-hour bike ride off the beaten path.

Ride in small groups of just 8 people max. (plus guide), and feel a closer connection to the city.

Discover obscure but beautiful attractions such as the Hospital de Sant Pau, and the amazing neoclassical cemetery of Poblenou.

This activity is not about seeing the major sights and hearing facts you could read in a guidebook, it's all about heading out on your bike to parts of the city that many locals don't even know about, in the company of a knowledgeable and passionate guide!

No two tours are the same, but some of the cool experiences that await you include visiting a flea market, learning about Barcelona's art nouveau and modern architecture, admiring street art, stopping for pastries and tapas in a local bar, and riding along Barceloneta beach.

Our small group ethos means that, unlike standard bike tours of the city, you’ll not only be learning about Barcelona, you’ll be living it too!

What To Expect

Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar
On most tours we pass by this sensational Gothic masterpiece and admire the rose-window façade, before exploring the rest of El Born.

10 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

El Born
We love to show travellers the hidden back streets of the Born district, full of secrets, boutiques, artisan shops and cosy cafes.... the central 'square' used to be a medieval jousting ground!

30 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

Parc de la Ciutadella
This gorgeous park is named after the citadel that once sat here. We explore its many points of interest, including a fountain partially-designed by Gaudi, and get some oxygen in our lungs.

20 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

Torre Agbar
This phallic-shaped wonder is one of the most iconic buildings in Barcelona. We marvel at its multi-hued exterior and discuss the modernisation of the city.

10 minutes • Admission Ticket Not Included

Los Encantes Barcelona
We often stop off at this charming old flea market and shop for kitsch souvenirs, or stop for a snack. The entire area has been revitalised in recent years.

30 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

El Poblenou
This former industrial district is full of treasures, such as modern parks, neoclassical cemeteries, street art, superblocks, and dazzling new architectural projects. Its quieter than the centre and ideal for cycling around.

45 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

Port Olimpic
Built for the 1992 Olympic Games this shining white marina transformed Barcelona's coast and is full of bars, clubs and modern sculptures... like Frank Gehry's golden fish.

15 minutes • Admission Ticket Free

Playa de La Barceloneta
No cycle ride in Barcelona is complete without a ride along the beach. We normally reserve this route for the way home, enjoying the sun on our faces and the carnival atmosphere of this crazy playa.

Perfect overview of the city -- Do this on your first day in Barcelona!
Michelle_N, 24-09-2022
This was a perfect way to quickly understand the different neighborhoods in Barcelona. Ideally, you would do this tour on your first day in the city, and then spend some time walking around each neighborhood during the rest of your vacation. Our tour guide, Elisa, was wonderful -- super friendly, a wealth of great information, and just an overall very likeable person. Having the chance to chat with her about the city and life in Spain was both fun and educational. The tour was 4 hours of biking but didn't feel like a lot of work. Barcelona is very flat and we rode at a relaxed pace, stopping frequently to learn about the neighborhoods and landmarks. We even had the chance to stop at a Boqueria market in Born (better, actually, than the one near Las Ramblas) and have a quick lunch. That was a really cool experience in of itself. After having gone on this tour, we then knew how to spend the rest of our time in Barcelona most effectively -- what places we wanted to visit, where to find the best shopping, places to eat, etc. Elisa even provided us with a google maps list of all her recommended restaurants, bars, and tapas stops. We could then refer to this to find the closest recommendation at any point in the city; an invaluable resource when you are walking around the city and need to find a place to eat or have a drink!

I looked at other bike tours but was drawn back to
Steel Donkeys & I’m so glad I did! It was an enchanting bike ride throughout the city & learning so much. Thank you “G” for all your wonderful information about the working men/women & the history of the rebellions & changes throughout history! Thanks to the Catalonians for demanding & establishing the 8 hr work day! It was an incredible tour & I recommend it to everyone!! Daya from Colorado USA

I’m too busy to write a long review but this is an excellent tour with an excellent guide. My guide was very knowledgable and kind. He has a big heart. Take time to get to know him. Thanks G. You made this day special. Big love to you!!
If you have time after the tour head to Bar Marsella for absinthe. G will tell you where to go. Hemingway and Picasso used to drink there.
Great way to see Barcelona!

This was a great tour!!! We made lots of stops in the old section of town where Alisa regaled us with lots of good history. We covered a lot of ground. It was an excellent introduction to Barcelona and gave me a good idea of how to spend subsequent days.
Good experience

We really enjoyed our private tour with Oscar. It was a great way to see the city and he did a great job customizing the tour to our preferences. I would recommend!
